I'm not sure offhand. But have you heard the one about Saint Lucy? She plucked out her own eyes because one of her suitors told her they were beautiful, and she wanted to stay chaste. At my old Church they had a statue of her holding a silver plate with the eyes on it (and another set still in her head). Pretty morbid!

Born in the 1400's, she was a warrior/knight, but girls weren't allowed - so she cut her hair as a disguise. She battled in the name of Christianity, and died raped and burned at the stake by the Christians.

The story goes that they removed a piece of her clothing during her burning to show her breasts - an indicator that she was indeed female, and a heretic for dressing as a male and claiming she had guidance of angels.

She purportedly was only 16 years old at death.

The Catholic church realized their mistake 25 years after her death, and canonized her 500 years later.
